International Relationship Among Orphans

In 1999, we began providing emotional support for children who had lost parents in major earthquakes in Colombia, Turkey, and Taiwan. In 2000, one of our staff members went to Kosovo to provide emotional support for children who had lost parents in civil wars. High-school orphans of the earthquake In Kobe started fund raising for children who had lost parents to earthquakes in Colombia. Some of the students brought the donations to Colombia.

There they met the President of Colombia and visited the earthquake orphans. Although language was an obstacle, the students were able to empathize with the orphans. Even though they could not speak directly, they were able to share intimate feelings. The students and the orphans had many common experiences in their lives. Similar trips were made to Turkey and Taiwan.

In the summer of 2000, ASHINAGA invited orphans from Colombia, Turkey, Taiwan and Kosovo to the 1st International Summer Camp for Orphans in Kobe, Japan. It was a great experience for everyone involved and the attendees were able to share their feelings and experiences despite the language barrier.
Since then we have been holding the internatinal summer camp every year. The countries that have participated in are Afghanistan, Algeria, El Salvador, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Malaysia, Maldives, Sri Lanaka, Thailand, Uganda and the USA.
