New York report
A Circle of Orphans Around the World

Kobe earthquake orphans pray for the victims of that disaster at Ground Zero (March 2002). We will invite orphans from New York and Afghanistan to our 3rd International Orphan Summer Camp.

At this time, I would like to somehow support orphans who have lost parents due to the WTC attack and also orphans in Afghanistan. I would like to invite them to the "3rd International Orphan Summer Camp" that will be held in Japan in 2002. We will be inviting orphans from seven different countries. Orphans will be coming from New York, Afghanistan, Uganda, Kosovo, Colombia, Turkey, and Taiwan. Of course, Japanese orphans from the Kobe earthquake and those orphaned by illness and suicide will also attend.
I lost my father in the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995. I had feelings of loneliness as my father's passing left an empty space in my heart. I couldn't believe that my father had died. It was very difficult for me to accept. Eventually I learned to accept my father's death.
I feel very secure being around other orphans I have met through Ashinaga. If I did not have the opportunity to be around other orphans in Ashinaga, I might still be thinking. "I am alone," or "Why is this sad thing only happening to me."
However, after having told my personal story to other orphans, I began to feel more and more secure. I think that it can be said of most orphans who have had this experience. Orphans of the WTC attacks and orphans from Afghanistan can be sad, angry and lonely. They may not be able to tell others about their problems. Because of my experience of sharing emotions with others, I would like to provide these orphans with a place to talk about their experiences and release their emotions. This experience would be very therapeutic and would also cross the boundaries of race, language, and culture.
We orphans will understand each other because many of us have lost loved ones in much the same way. Please help and support the "3rd International Orphans' Summer Camp" held in August 2002 in Japan.
