Gorata is an AAI Scholar from Botswana, studying Political Science with two minors in Peace Studies and International Development, currently attending university in the USA. She achieved Dean’s List recognition during both Spring and Fall of 2019. This recognition is awarded to students who achieve a semester average at the top 30% of their program. In addition to her outstanding academic engagement, Gorata is a leader on campus. She plans and facilitates retreats for Campus Ministry and serves as a member of the International Students’ Board. Currently, her focus is on improving the quality and relevance of primary education to children in Botswana. She hopes to promote and execute the development of localized, contextualized curricula which children can truly identify within their life. Through this transformation in the education system, Gorata hopes that children will see themselves as worthy and vital to the education system, thereby empowering them to be positive leaders in the future. She plans to do academic and field research as well as applying to grad school or law school.
