In June 1991, some ASHINAGA students visited the March of Dimes office in NYC. They learned about the philosophy of the March of Dimes and the volunteer walk system. Upon their return to Japan, they started a Japanese volunteer walk called "P-Walk 10". Through the P-Walk, many people were able to display their sense of "philanthropy." Participants walk 10 km for support for orphans. They hoped that by participating in P-Walk they could help spread "philanthropy" throughout Japan and the World.
Each P-Walk takes place around 100 locations throughout Japan. Over 10,000 people participate in each time. Many large corporations encourage their workers to take part in. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Prudential, GE Edison, Toyota, National, Sony, NTT etc, have participated in.
