Thirty-five students from all over Sub-Saharan Africa have arrived in Nansana at the Ashinaga Uganda Kokoro-Juku to prepare for their future lives as international students in Western Europe, the United States, and Japan. Kicking off the orientation week on the 7th of May, the Opening Ceremony featured speeches and welcome introductions from staff and students, and a humorous sketch by our interns. Afterwords, the staff conducted workshops focusing on the development of each student as they prepare to become future leaders on the African continent. The students have also engaged in civic duties through the formation of a student government and the commencement of community engagement projects. All in one week!
In the following two months, the students will not only prepare their visa applications, but they will also gain the skills needed to succeed in their future country of studies through cultural lessons, courses on individual well-being, cooking classes, and continued academic development. We wish them the best of luck as they look to transition into university scholars and future leaders !
