ASHINAGA FRANCE
Ashinaga France is a nonprofit that provides young African students with the financial and socio-educative support they need to become young leaders for the African continent. As part of the Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI), the Scholars are selected because of their leadership potential and their vision for the African continent.
About Ashinaga Foundation
The Ashinaga movement began over 55 years ago after President and Founder, Yoshiomi Tamai, lost his mother in a traffic accident in 1963. Having experienced first-hand the lack of support an orphan receives, Tamai and a group of like-minded individuals went on to found the Association for Traffic Accident Orphans in 1967. Through public advocacy, regular media coverage, and the development of a street fundraising system, the association was able to set in motion significant improvements in national traffic regulations as well as support bereaved students across Japan.
FOUNDATION OVERVIEW
Ashinaga provides educational support to orphaned children worldwide. Over the past 50 years, Ashinaga has helped around 100,000 orphans fulfill their dream of attending college.

JOURNEY OF AN ASHINAGA FRANCE SCHOLAR
-
First Steps
AAI Scholars are recruited across 48 sub-Saharan African countries. They receive academic and personal development training in Uganda or Senegal to prepare them for their studies abroad. Each Scholar has their own heartfelt goal to improve people’s lives in their communities.
-
Studying Abroad
Scholars leave their home countries and study at universities around the world. Ashinaga covers the costs of tuition and all other necessary expenses, but the Scholars do the real work, developing academic, personal, and professional skills in an international environment.
-
Making a Difference
The Scholars create detailed plans to tackle the big problems they have identified in their home communities. They work on this plan throughout their studies, receiving feedback and support from Ashinaga staff and their peers. They conduct field research in African countries and work internships in their vacations to gain the skills and connections they need.
