Former Ambassador and former Senior Vice President of JICA

Former ambassador and former Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan. Born in 1948, he entered the foreign service in 1972 after graduating from the University of Tokyo. During his career as a diplomat, he had many posts both at home and overseas, among them Director General for Africa. There he served as African Personal Representative for the Japanese Prime Minister and worked together with G8 countries to form NEPAD. He served as ambassador to Iran, India, and Bhutan as well as ambassador in charge of economic diplomacy. Retiring from the Ministry in 2012, he became senior Vice President of JICA where he interacted with many leaders of developing countries. Looking back, he feels that his main role was making contributions as an aid agency to SDGs, and building infrastructures and human resources. He is now a board member of Ashinaga.
