Prof. Osmund D. Mwandemele is a Namibian citizen who was born in Mbinga district in southern part of Tanzania on 02 May 1950. He is a Professor of Plant Genetics and Breeding. He holds BSc with Education (Hons) and MSc degrees from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and PhD (1983) from the University of Sydney, Australia. Prof O D Mwandemele is the Coordinating Director of the newly established Centre for Mining Research and Training at the University of Namibia (UNAM) from 01 Janaury 2017. He has also being tasked by the University Management to coordinate/facilitate the process of establishing a new School of Marine Engineering and Maritime Studies at Walvis Bay habour town, in Namibia. Prof. Mwandemele served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research of the University of Namibia from 01 January 2007 to 31 December 2015. Following restructuring of the University of Namibia and the creation of a new Office for Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Mwandemele served the remaining one year of his second five-year term as Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
