YUKO TANAKA

Prof. Yuko Tanaka was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1952.
Before being appointed as the President of Hosei University, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2014. She has been working as a Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences and at the Institute of International Japan Studies at Hosei University.
Her academic specialties are early Japanese modern culture and comparative Asian culture. Her research focuses on the literature, art and culture of the Edo period.
Prof. Tanaka was awarded the “New Face Award of Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts” for her book “Edo no Sôzôryoku” (Imaginative Power of Edo Period). She also received the “Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts” and the “Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities” for another book, “Edo Hyakumu” (100 Dreams of Edo Period). She has published many other books, as well.
