University: Kings College London Degree Course: BSc. in Global Health and Social Medicine Expected Graduation: 2023 Internship: Mariama plans to complete her summer internship in 2021 or 2022
Future Ambition: Mariama’s dream is to learn how to identify the conditions responsible for preventable diseases and to eradicate them. The Gambia is one of the top ten countries in Africa with very high maternal mortality rates. While this could be attributed to economic and political hindrances that need to be urgently addressed, Mariama wishes to tackle the cultural obstacles that affect the health of women and girls in the region. For this reason, she has chosen to study Global Health and Social Medicine, and Ashinaga is helping her realize that dream.
- Mariama received the King’s Young Leaders Scholarship
