Friday

Home Country: Zambia Country of Study: Japan Undergraduate Degree: Economics and Business Graduation: 2020

During summer 2020, Friday applied and was accepted in a volunteering activity in Japan, called Tono Innovation Summer college. The program was organized by Boundless and the local government. In attendance were international students from Senegal, Zambia, France, the USA, Poland, and India. The program aimed to create future leaders who will lead development in rural Japan.
The main objective of the project was to create an inclusive environment in Tono City. Through this program, Friday’s team led high school students to have discussions and think about social issues related to the SDGs.  The high school students were divided into groups and each group had a theme to follow. Friday says “my group focused on using agricultural produces in Tono to create new industries. My group got the first position as the best presentation and realistic project. This program made me realize how much potential young people have in changing the world. I was amazed by how we were able to generate ideas that would lead to the development of the city. I want to replicate this project in Zambia. I believe young people in rural areas have great ideas that could help to develop their communities. All they need is an opportunity to be heard and support to implement their ideas.”
