11年目の「3.11」 そして、ウクライナ
1万8000人を超す死者・不明者を出した東日本大震災から、3月11日で11年になります。
沿岸の町をのみこんだ巨大津波、福島第一原発の放射能漏れ事故……まさに想像を絶する大惨事でした。
あの時、あしなが育英会は遺児の命をつなぐ「特別一時金」給付を即断。
奨学生、ボランティア、職員が被災地を巡り、世界中から集まったご寄付を2083人の遺児に届けることができました。
その後、仙台、石巻、陸前高田の3か所に、津波遺児の心のケア施設「レインボーハウス」を開設。
あしなが育英会の職員は被災地にとどまり、阪神・淡路大震災でつちかった「心のケア・あしながメソッド」を応用して、津波遺児に寄り添い続けてきました。
今年の3月11日も各レインボーハウスで、津波遺児が大切な人を思い語り合う「こころの居場所」を開催します。
あれから11年。
私たちは、再び、ロシアのウクライナ侵攻という想像を超える悲劇を目にしています。現地の状況は不透明ですが、多くの戦争遺児が生まれていることでしょう。
遺児を支援する「あしなが運動」は、世界の遺児との連帯を目標に掲げてきました。
私たちは、津波遺児や8000余人の奨学生とともに、戦争遺児の悲しみを「じぶんのこと」と受け止め、考え、行動してまいります。

March 11 marks the 11th anniversary of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, which left over 18,000 people dead or unaccounted for. The massive tsunami that engulfed coastal towns and the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant were truly unimaginable catastrophes.
At that time, Ashinaga made an immediate decision to provide a “special lump-sum grant” to orphaned children to ensure their wellbeing. Ashinaga Scholars, volunteers, and staff members traveled to the affected areas, and donations collected from all over the world were delivered to 2,083 orphaned children.
Subsequently, Rainbow House, an emotional support facility for children orphaned by the tsunami, was established in Sendai, Ishinomaki, and Rikuzentakata. Ashinaga staff members have remained in the affected areas and have continued to care for the children by applying the “Ashinaga Method” of emotional care, which was developed after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. On March 11 this year, an event will be held at each Rainbow House for the children to think about their loved ones and talk with each other.
Eleven years have passed since 3.11. We are once again witnessing an unimaginable tragedy, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Although the situation in the region is uncertain, many children will lose their parents in the war.
The Ashinaga Movement, which supports orphaned students, has set a goal of solidarity with children in the same circumstances around the world. Our hearts and minds are with the children who have and will be affected by this tragic event.
